FREE Toddler Parenting Tips Presentation: Unusual Tips to Effective Parenting
As parents, we would all like some help dealing with behavior problems in young children, namely toddlers. I am a mom of a very large family. My husband and I have a “his/mine/ours” crew of seven. Our oldest is 30, and our youngest is 10. Just to add some interest to the mix, our youngest is also Down Syndrome. When we married, the oldest was on his own, but within two years, we found ourselves with five young children under our roof on a daily basis, and six every other weekend. Needless to say, we are no expert, but we have had just about every parenting experience possible. Undoubtedly, the toddler years are the most challenging. These little guys want to be independent and will test you every step of the way. Great news!!! They will grow out of it. They will become functioning adults, and you will survive!
Like me, you may wonder exactly what causes toddlers to behave the way they do. What creates this independent and often defiant behavior, yet also so sweet and comical? Why is it that in one instant, we can calmly talk them down from a tantrum, and the very next time, that technique only seems to make it worse? What exactly must we do in order to create the bond or bridge necessary for our child to trust and obey? Am I actually doing or saying things to cause tantrums or to trigger them to escalate? You can have all of these questions and more answered.
